碩士 / 中原大學 / 土木工程研究所 / 100 / Microalagae has considerable potential as a source of biodiesel because of its attractive properties, i.e. fast growth, ability to utilize atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) for photosynthesis, production of lipid products that are similar to diesel, etc.
In this study, high lipid-containing Botryococcus braunii (25 to 75% of body mass) was cultured by batch under various light intensities (3000, 6000, and 12000 lux) and carbon dioxide concentrations (0.04, 5, and 10%).The optical density, number of algal cells, chlorophyll-a content, and lipid content were measured to identify the conditions that maximized biomass production and lipid accumulation at various incubation times. Results demonstrate that 5% CO2 , 6000 lux and 21 days incubation yield the highest lipid production rate (37.92 to 44.46 mg/L/d) and biomass production rate (0.130). The maximum growth rate under extreme lighting condition (12000 lux) was 0.682 , regardless of incubation time.
Also to this light, the average lipid content and production increased minimally with incubation time (28.18% and 29.25 mg/L/d in 10 days, and 35.69% and 32.38 mg/L/d in 21 days). Poor growth and lipid accumulation were observed at very low lighting condition (3000 lux), and as such it is not ideal for cultivation.
