The Relationship between the Local Religious Center and the Inhabitants - A Case Study on Fu Hai Temple at Wang-Gong / 地方信仰中心與居民互動關係之研究 -以王功福海宮為例

碩士 / 大葉大學 / 設計暨藝術學院碩士在職專班 / 100 / The purpose of this study is to discuss the interaction and the relationship between the local inhabitants and Fu Hai Temple and it also tries to understand the interaction and the place attachment of local inhabitants toward Fu Hai Temple during
the festivals and non-festive period. This research which applies both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The research subjects are Fu Hai Temple management committee and the local inhabitants. Besides, the data obtained by means of literature reviews, observation, interviews and 282 efficacious questionnaire surveys will be analyzed. The results are as follows:
1. The establishment of the temple was originally to protect the rural traders for safely acessing the Wang-Gong harbor. However, the harbor gradually lost the commercial function and the rural traders’ support due to the accumulation of the sediments. Nevertheless, because of Ma-zhu repeating remarkable miracles on residents, the temple had progressively become a local religious center.
2. During the festivals, the local inhabitants enthusiastically participate in the activities organized by the temple and the relationship between the inhabitants and the temple is nice.
3. The requent moments of residents’ activities at Fu Hai Temple is from 7-8 am to 5-6 pm. The number of crowds in holidays is more than that in weekdays.
4. Residents’ place attachment toward the Fu Hai Temple belongs to the middle and high extent. Among them, psychological dependence is higher than the functional dependence.
5. The residents’ attachment for the Fu Hai Temple is deeper especially for those who are older and living longer around the area because the temple could provide the spiritual satisfaction
6. Due to the inconsistent concepts of the management committee,the Fu Hai temple is lacking of surrounding pavilions or facilities. In other words, the majority of the residents can only be engaged in ritual activities.
