碩士 / 銘傳大學 / 經濟學系碩士在職專班 / 100 / The Western Strait Economic Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "Western Strait Zone") spread across the four provinces, the area with Fujian as principal is closest to and has the strongest ties with Taiwan. With the planning and the rise of the coastal economic zone in China, the Chinese government has started to pay attention to the Western Strait Zone recently, especially with the increasingly cordial cross-straits relation.
Since the proposition of the Western Strait Economic Zone by the Fujian provincial government in 2004, the inclusion into the Central’s ‘11th Five-Year Plan’ in 2006 and the 2009 approval of Chinese State Council at the ‘On Supporting Fujian Province to speed up the construction of the Economic Zone’ discussion the construction Western Strait Zone has become the focus of both straits.
The Western Strait Zone is, to China, an investigation on the possibility of developing a complete and distinct coastal industry that can play an important role in the Asia-Pacific region and with the integration of cross-straits economies, becomes the economic center of the entire Asia-Pacific region. Therefore, with concern to the fastest growing economy in the world and the conflicts and future development of cross-straits relation, this article, on the basis of investigating the policy on the development of the Western Strait Economic Zone, analyze if the objective of the policy and the development of the Western Strait Zone could be mutually beneficial to cross-strait regions.
This study is based on the analysis of published work. Through official Chinese government data, statistical data, journal articles and professional writings, an in-depth analysis of the history of the development, the development stages, the transition and characteristics of Shanghai economic zone is carried out.
