Economic Study of Wetland Ecosystem by Using Emergy Theory –Example of Chiku Coastal Wetland, Taiwan / 以能值理論分析濕地生態經濟系統之研究 -以臺灣七股海岸濕地為例

碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 地球科學系碩博士班 / 100 / Wetland ecological benefits assessment is the basis of wetland protection and reasonable utilization. Wetland, a unique ecosystem, has many kinds of functions, and can provide a wide range of resources and services. If the way of using the wetland resources has decided been only according to the benefits, it will always lead to the destruction of other wetland functions and benefits. Assessing the ecological functions and their benefits for each kind of wetland scientifically and comprehensively, can provide the reliable scientific basis for the protection, plan, restoration, utilization as well as to ensure the sustainable use of wetland and its resources.
This work is to show the application of Emergy Theory in analyzing the energy utilization of a wetland ecosystem, and to evaluate its respective significance. There are three steps for Wetland Emergy Analysis : (1). The calculation of the Emergy; (2). The calculation of the Emergy Index; (3). The evaluation of the value of the ecosystem and its corresponding meaning. It is necessary to understand the value of the multiaspect functions of the wetland ecosystem, such as the biodiversity, maintaining soil fertility, justification for region climate, purification of the pollution, disturbance regulation, recreation and the scientific education.
As far as the Chiku Coastal Wetland is concerned, the Emergy analysis of its Ecosystem has been done to assess the input—output conditions and ecological benefits of such wetland system, groped for its development trends and possible causes of changes. An evaluation of its benefit and development has been done for the Chiku Coastal Wetland ecosystem from 2004 to 2009 respectively. It was found that the Chiku Coastal Wetland is encountering a serious problem due to the stress of over exploitation. In the case of the study, including seven functions of the material supply and consumption, we has concluded some strategies, such as to lower the investment of the Aquaculture in the area, and to enhance the development of the tourism and scientific research and education, etc.. Finally, the Emergy Theory was adapted to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the wetland ecosystem.
