Using AHP to Construct a Supplier Evaluation Framework – A Study of a Freight Forwarder Company / 應用AHP之服務供應商評量架構-以某海運承攬運送公司為例

碩士 / 國立屏東科技大學 / 科技管理研究所 / 100 / The evaluation of suppliers is an important issue in supply chain management, but there is no exclusive rules or framework for performing such tasks. Furthermore, the service supply chains differ from manufacturing ones dramatically. The evaluation schemes proposed previously in the manufacturing domain can hardly be adopted with little changes. Therefore, this study establishes a framework for evaluating service suppliers.
Evaluation rules are initially obtained from literatures. Interviews of the managerial personnel of forward companies and shippers are conducted. An analysis of the forward industry is also performed. 36 evaluation elements, called sub-criteria, are identified. Those 36 elements, representing the needs of forward companies and shippers, as well as the characteristics of the industry, are further grouped into 17groups, called criteria, and 5 dimensions. An AHP architecture of four levels is constructed.
The results show that "expenses/cost" is the most important dimension, followed by "delivery capability" which represents the professional capability of a supplier. "Value" and "customer support" are the third and forth important dimensions. "Tangibility" is the least important dimension. Additionally, the weight of "expenses/cost" from shippers is less the total weight of four other dimension. Such incidence indicates the final customers, shippers, needs a total satisfactory service rather than a less expensive one.
Finally, the suggestions of the practical applications of this study are made. The directions for future studies are suggested.
