碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋環境化學與生態研究所 / 100 / Four August cruises between year 2010 (08/02-05, 08/25-27) and 2011 (08/01-03, 08/16-20) conducted in the southern East China Sea where extended from inner shelf to the outer shelf were used to study the short-term variation of primary production. An unusual vertical mixing was found in the middle shelf on the early August 2010 cruise. When the result of early August 2010 cruise was excluded from statistical analysis, it was found the highest primary production (1031374 mgC m-2 d-1) was in the outer shelf where Kuroshio upwelling frequently occurred and the lowest primary production (592162 mgC m-2 d-1) was in the middle shelf where Taiwan Current Warm Water occupied. Primary production (848228 mgC m-2 d-1) in the inner shelf was in-between which was affected by the westward extension of the Kuroshio upwelling. The spatial average of primary production in the southern East China Sea was 787310 mgC m-2 d-1 which was about 2.3 times higher than previous study on July (Gong et al., 2000). The very high of primary production (1918150 mgC m-2 d-1) was observed in the middle shelf on the early August 2010 cruise and its value was about 3 times higher than that in the usual condition at the same region. This present study indicated that primary production in the southern East China Sea not only have higher monthly variation in summer, but have strong inter-monthly variation.
