The continued development of the Transhipment hub in the Asia Pacific region will be vital to the future competitiveness of the region’s economy. This study aims to probe the problems in running freight forwarding operations, through the perspectives of relevant freight forwarders, using the harbors in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Kaohsiung as focal point.
These are:
1) Costs and the degree of freedom in Customs.
2) Information and automation management
3) The degree of merchandise control
4) Costs advantage among the ports.
5) The transportation infra-structure of the three ports.
6) The policies governing these multinational consolidation center.
Based on the preceding research, this study offers the following recommendations:
1) Port management requires an understanding of the cargo owner's
needs.
2) Facilitate speedy flow of goods;
3) Study the management and automated methods used in Singapore and
Hong Kong.
4) The cooperation of governmental polices;
5) Build on current existing import/export foundation to promote Transhipment service
