Exploring the Development of Yangtze River Domestic Ports and Shipping Operators in China / 中國長江內河港口發展與航商經營分析

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 100 / In the past, the development of Mainland China was started from the coastal areas. Since 1978, China government proposed many regional economic development plans, which not only created the rapid economic growth in coastal areas but also gradually promoted the development of western areas.
Among economic programs, some plans were focusing on developing coastal and inland ports to construct excellent port facilities and install advanced cargo handling equipments. Those port hardware and software greatly help liner shipping operators to improve cargo loading/unloading efficiency, shorten ship turnaround time in port, reduce operating costs, and achieve profit maximization.

This study investigates the development of domestic ports in Yangtze River and focuses on Chongqing Cuntan two bonded port areas. Through analyzing the plans and policies to develop western areas proposed by Chinese government and conducting interviews with shipping carriers providing services on domestic ports in Yangtze River, this study collects many valuable data for discovering the difficult issues for carriers on operating businesses in Chongqing Cuntan port; it also finds out the benefits and risks for carriers to operate shipping services on domestic ports in Yangtze River.
