碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 100 / In the present study, we collected catch records, including the date, fish species, and abundance, from 155 commercial fishing vessels operating in the water off western Taiwan ranging 119-121°E and 23.75-25°N during Jan-Dec 2010. These fishing vessels were respectively belonged to gillnet (54), pole and lines boote (25), misc.fish long line(6), trawl (61), and torched-light net fisheries (9). More accurate and reliable fishing position and time of these vessels were further obtained with the aid of VDR (Voyage Data Recorder) installed in these fishing vessels. All these data along with remote sensing-based SST (Sea Surface Temperature) data were utilized to characterize spatial-temporal distribution of fishing activities in the western waters off Taiwan.
According to results of the analysis of fishing activity, main targeted fish species varied by different fisheries as follow: Small sharks, Ariidae, Scomberomorus guttatu, Pennahia argentata, and Ilisha elongate for gillnet fisheries; Parapristipoma trilineatum, Seriola dumerili, Miichthys miiuy, Decapterus maruadsi, and Trachurus japonicas for pole and lines boote fisheries; Ariidae, Scomber australasicus, Pomadasys kaakan, Pennahia argentata, and Small sharks for misc. fish long line fisheries; Trash fish, Decapterus maruadsi, Pennahia argentata, Trichiurus lepturus, and Scomber australasicus for trawl fisheries; Scomber australasicus, Uroteuthis edulis, Katsuwonus pelamis, Hemiramphidae and Uroteuthis chinensis for torched-light net fisheries.
Additionally, spatial-temporal distribution of fishing efforts for each fisheries further revealed fishing grounds also varied by different fisheries as follow: the water off western Taiwan and northern Penghu for gillnet and trawl fisheries; the northern part of water off western Taiwan for pole and lines boote fisheries; the southern part of water off western Taiwan and northern Penghu for misc. fish long line fisheries; the northern part of water off western Taiwan and northern Penghu for torched-light net fisheries. For each fisheries, fishing grounds are distribution of the waters off western Taiwan, front area and northern Penghu.
