A study on changes in coastal fish community under environmental variations – a case study from set-net fishery in Dong-Ao Bay / 環境變動對沿岸魚類群聚影響之研究-以東澳定置網為例

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 100 / The increase of sea surface temperature (SST) in the surrounding waters off Taiwan has been accelerating since 1980’s, which is particularly significant in winter months. However, there were no long-term sampling zones set to prove such changes in terms of multispecies catch and SST observations. In this study, we selected Dong-Ao set-net and it adjacent waters as a window to observe such changes in fish society and coastal ocean environment. We collected daily catch data in number and weight from a set-net during 1993-2011, with which time series of biodiversity index (Shannon-Weiner Index; H’) were constructed. Meanwhile, SST data were used to examine oceanographic conditions of the sampling site.
The study found that both H’ in Dong-Ao Bay and adjacent SST increased during the past 19 years. But H’ for each single month during the 19 years and found that there were significant decrease in May. Multivariate analysis revealed significant differences among seasons, and there were significant differences between 1993~1997 and 1998~2011, that were identical with SST rising. During the first season, recruit amount of pelagic species was decreased and that was increased in the second season. We believe that such trend of catch in certain season were affected by Kuroshio. Reef-associated species peaked in March and April from 1993 to 2001, but the peak of fishing season disappeared after 2001.
To sum up, the fish community in Dong-Ao Bay were found to be affected by the SST rising of the northeastern Taiwan. The number of fish species increased, the catch of cold water species decreased, and peak fishing season in winter months flattened.
