Studies on the spatial-temporal characteristics of catch composition and fishing ground of gillnet fishery in the waters off eastern Taiwan using vessel location records / 利用船位資料探討臺灣東部海域刺網漁業之作業與漁獲組成時空分布特性

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 100 / The fishing activity data, including fishing date, position and catch amount and fishing species catch composition, and the vessel location records were collected by boats offrom the gillnet fishery operated in the waters off eastern Taiwan during January to December, in 2010, were integrated with vessel location records and sea surface temperature (SST) SST data. Based on integrated data, the temporal and spital distribution characteristic of catch composition and fishing ground of gillnet fishery in the waters off eastern Taiwan were analyzed andusing geographical information system (GIS). The fishing activity data, including fishing date, catch amount and catch composition, collected from the gillnet fishery operated in the waters off eastern Taiwan during January to December in 2010, were integrated with vessel location records and sea surface temperature (SST) data. Based on integrated data, the temporal and spital distribution characteristic of catch composition and fishing ground of gillnet fishery in the waters off eastern Taiwan were analyzed using geographical information system.
The results of this study indicated that the fishing ground of gillnet fishery in the waters off eastern Taiwan was mainly distributed in the waters between 21.75°-24.85°N and 120.15°-123.05°E, and the highest fishing effort (trip) occurred in November. The species of catch were classified into over 100 species, total catch in 2010 was about 190t. The estimate the monthly catch rate were fluctuated between 84.2 and 257.9 (kg/trip), and the annual average catch rate was about 179.1 (kg/trip).

Dominant species of the catch caught by gillnet fishery in the waters off eastern Taiwan were black marlin (Makaira indica), sailfish (Istiophorus platypteru), and blue marlin (Makaira nigricans). Black marlin was mainly caught in the waters with SST of 23.5~28°C during October to December. Sailfish can be caught throughout the year and it was mainly caught in the waters with SST of 29~30°C in the major fishing season of July and August. High catches of blue marlin were made during November to next March and highest catch rate occurred in the waters with SST of 23.5 to 25.5 °C during January to March.
