碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 100 / The sepia stingray, Urolophus aurantiacus, a small bottom-dwelling stingray, distributed in the northeastern waters off Taiwan. A total of 456 specimens were collected monthly from Sep. 2010 to Nov. 2011 in Dashi fish market in Yilan country. All specimens were captured from adjacent waters of Kueishan Island, Auti and Peng Chia Yu by bottom trawlers operated under the depth of 30-300 m. The maximum likelihood ratio test indicated that there is no significant difference between sexes on eviscerated weight (EW) - disc width (DW) relationship and can be expressed as EW=0.025DW3.098 ( n=453, p > 0.05). Vertebrae were used to estimate age and growth parameters in this study. Edge analysis and marginal increment ratio analysis indicated annual growth band pairs formation, and opaque band was formed in November. The best fitted growth function for U. aurantiacus was Gompertz function. The growth parameters were DW∞ = 24.47 cm, k = 0.11 yr-1 for females, and DW∞ = 21.88 cm, k = 0.13 yr-1 for males. The oldest age of females and males in this study was 17.9 yrs and 14.3 yrs, respectively. The age at 50% maturity for female and male was 7.5 yrs and 4.7 yrs, respectively. The maximum theoretical age of females and males was 26.7 yrs and 21.8 yrs, respectively.
