Studies on the spatial-temporal characteristics of catch composition and fishing ground of longline fishery in the waters off eastern Taiwan using vessel location records / 利用船位系統資料探究台灣東部海域延繩釣之漁獲組成及漁場分佈特性

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 100 / The fishing activity data collected from 90 gillnet vessels operated in the waters off eastern Taiwan in 2010, were integrated with vessel location records and sea surface temperature (SST) data. Based on integrated data, this study analyzed the spatial-temporal characteristics of catch composition and fishing ground of longline fishery in the waters off eastern Taiwan.
The results of this study indicated that the longline fishery in the waters off eastern Taiwan mainly operated in the waters between 22N°-24.5N° and 121E°-122E°. The fishing ground significantly changed with seasonal pattern. The longline vessels mainly operated in the coastal waters in winter and catches and catch rates of billfishes and sharks were higher than other species. During spring and summer, the fishing ground extended to the offshore area in the southeastern waters of Taiwan and the catch composition mainly consisted of dophin fish (Coryphaena hippurus) and tunas. The catch of dolphin fish mainly distributed in the coastal waters, while catch and catch rate of tunas were relatively higher for vessels operated in offshore waters.
The catches of longline fishery in the waters off eastern Taiwan mainly consisted of dolphin fish, yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), silky shark (Carcharhinus falciformis) and billfishes. Dolphin fish was mainly caught during April to June and high catch rate occurred in the waters with sea waters temperature (SST) of 25℃-27℃. The fishing seasons for yellowfin tuna were in the period of April to June and the period of December to next March. Silky shark, black marlin and blue marlin were mainly caught during January to April, during November to next January and during January to May, respectively; and high catch rates of these species occurred in the waters with SST of 23℃-26.5℃. Fishing season for Sailfish was in the period of May to July and high catch rate occurred occurred in the waters with SST of 25℃-27.5℃.
