碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 商船學系所 / 100 / The Crew with a high risk environment of the occupational workplace, The shipowner prevent occupational hazard, injuries and diseases, and ensure that a series of plans to improve occupational safety and health protection, including the perspective of protection of maritime safety and the protection of physical and mental health of crew, the crew should have more rights than other industries in order to reduce occupational disaster scenarios, for example:the insurance, the working hours, the vacation, the wages, the social security and other aspects.
If crew in basic insurance interests can not obtain effective protection, crew may fatigue to work, or the shipowner can not provides for conform international Convention including life condition and working conditions, and health conditions of health, and appropriate of work environment for crew, not only effect crew physical and mental health, but also on sea lives, on property security and on constituting a serious threat, thus this research wishes to discuss MLC 2006 helps merchant seafares’ of insurance rights and interests or not.
This research focused on interviews, documentation by inductive method, case analysis of a cross and Importance-Performance Analysis for analysisof crew injuries, insurance claim of the dead, and the causes of their cases and living conditions, working conditions, health, decent working environment-related health conditions, to understand the crew's contract of employment, on board the workplace environment should be improved to follow directions, reach to prior prevention and ensure that seafarers’ insurance rights and interests. Finally, this study enabled shipping companies to pay attention to merchant seamen's labor environment in the workplace, and improving its insurance interests, work and welfare in order to reduce the occurrence of occupational disaster at sea, and comply with the provisions of the MLC 2006.
