碩士 / 東海大學 / 建築學系 / 100 / The intertidal zone. It's an important area between land and sea where rich natural resources and biological diversity play a role in seawater's self-purification capacity. It is a natural protective mechanism of the coast.
Because of military control over Kinmen, the area has retained the richness of natural ecological resources, and so it is becoming a internationally famous birdwatching area.
The Wu Jiang intertidal zone in the town of Jincheng, one of the five bird-watching areas in Kinmen, is this project's site.
However the migratory birds are reduced year after year in this area, with water pollution in intertidal zone being one of the primary reasons.
In face of the tourism industry's problem in Kinmen, the government designated beaches, built recreational areas, etc. to attract visitors to the region. In spite of the governmental efforts, tourism in the area did not increase in the area.
The use of water purification mechanisms serves as an addition to the naturally-occurring intertidal self-purifications systems, which then helps to restore bird habitats.
In addition, the changes to the intertidal zone resulting from tidal effects also serves to control human interaction with the area. The cyclical nature of the tide also causes the landscape to change in a predictable manner.
As a result of the studies, I designed the shape of the tidal park to provide both educational and tourism opportunities. To one side, there is a discussion of the relationship between humans and their interactions with the natural environment. On the other, there is a balance between urbanization and the natural environment.
