碩士 / 國防大學理工學院 / 大氣科學碩士班 / 101 / Taiwan is surrounded by the ocean and two thirds of the land mass is covered by mountains. Rapid change of weather (visibility, cloud ceiling and local precipitation) in the mountains is a great disadvantage when aviation and ground forces relieve the victims. In addition to ambient wind speed, stability and land surface, the transition of local circulation plays an important role in weather evolution in the mountains. In fact, sea breeze, land breeze, valley breeze, or even sea-valley breeze can induce thunderstorm and further occurrence of local heavy rain under weak synoptic conditions. The sea breeze can penetrate farther inland after formation. On the leading edge of the sea breeze (sea breeze front), low-level moist air from the sea will induce strong moist updrafts on the sea breeze front, and become the mechanism of trigger for deep convection . But if there is terrain inland, the strengths of the sea breeze circulation and the sea breeze front and on-shore wind speed would be affected. In this study, we use National Taiwan University - Purdue three-dimensional non-hydrostatic model (NTU-Purdue 3D non-hydrostatic model) to simulate the local circulation induced by simple platform terrain with a two-dimensional domain with high resolution (Δ x = Δ z = 50m). It is expected to understand the internal structure of sea breeze circulation and related physical processes. We design three different slopes and heights cases to simulate. We found that the slope rate less than 0.006, the valley wind circulation will develop with convective cells. In addition, we also considered carioles forces and circumstances wind to understand the impact of different factors. We hope further predict the weather change in mountains for reference of disaster relief troops in the National troops.
