This country’s economic development must depend on the foreign materials and trades. The foreign trade all relies on the sea transportation and air transport. The shipping industry is a highly competition industry. It is an important issue to improve themselves by the same quality of the shipping companies.
This study is to use Data Envelopment Analysis to aim at the 11 shipping companies in Taiwan during 2012. The input variables are total assets, employees and operating costs; the output variables are operating income and operating gross profit. To measure the efficiency, we use CCR Model and the BCC Model to get the pure efficiency and scale efficiency. In order to achieve the explicit improvements and suggestions, the slack variable analysis and improvement analysis are used to discuss inefficient shipping industry.
