The pilot study of the handle angle and the ratio of the length of extended telescopic handle to the stature for the luggage / 旅行箱最適拉桿長身高比與握柄夾角之先期研究

碩士 / 華梵大學 / 工業工程與經營資訊學系碩士班 / 101 / With the trend of globalization, the public goes abroad on business or vacation prevalently. Luggage, a mobile loading tool carrying the needs in the travel, is transported by pulling manually. Many users complain of the inadequate dimensions of luggage, such as handle height and handle angle, resulting in difficulty in handling the luggage. However, there is lack of research in the effect of handle height and handle angle on transporting luggage. Thus, the purpose of this pilot study was to investigate the handle height and handle angle effect on the performance of transporting luggage. Five participants took part in the study whose ages are between nineteen to twenty-five years old. Independent variables of the experiment are the ratio of the length of extended telescopic handle to the stature (0.5 and 0.7) and handle angle (0∘ and 60∘). Dependent variables were decrement in grip strength, the number of stumbles, the number of steps, the number of turning luggage over, time of transportation and wrist RPE. Each participant had to perform four experimental trials in four different days. The experimental trials were performed in random sequence and each trial took about 20 minutes. The results showed that no significant influences of handle angle were found on all measurements. For the ratio of the length of extended telescopic handle to the stature, 0.7 had greater decrement in grip strength, longer time to transport luggage, and less number of steps and stumbles. This study suggests that handle height, a more important factor to influence on the performance of transporting luggage, is worth to study further.
