Application of Six Sigma DMAIC methodology to improve the logistics and transportation processes / 應用六標準差DMAIC方法於物流運輸流程改善之研究

碩士 / 義守大學 / 工業管理學系碩士在職專班 / 101 / Six Sigma was a concept introduced by Motorola. Numerous companies have in recent years brought about noticeable changes and cultivated potentials by utilizing the model. It has made Six Sigma attract the attention of firms around the globe and made it an important factor in 21-century quality management.Six sigma can be applied to logistics management by minimizing the probability of transportation errors and thus has made it an important design concept in logistics automation.
This research uses a government agency’s transportation department as example and uses the DMAIC improvement cycle of the six sigma management system. The research emphasizes on the logistics of transportation and aims to shorten transportation time and increase loading efficiency. This research proves to save both manpower and time by installing real-time vehicle monitoring systems. At the same time, it minimizes dispatch errors and enables rapid dispatch decision-making.The result is systematic dispatch management of vehicles and improved results showing the monthly vehicle unavailable rate being greatly lowered from 6.16% to 1.75%.It also shows an increase in the monthly average transport distance, frequency, and weight for each person. Finally, the dispatch model found can be applied in the future and can also serve as reference for the transportation departments in government agencies to lower unit costs and boost competitiveness.
