Growth Rate and Lipid Content of Microalgae Cultivated with Innovative Photosynthetic Fixed-Biofilm Microbial Fuel Cell / 創新光合固定生物膜型微生物燃料電池之藻類生長速率與脂質成分之研究

碩士 / 康寧大學 / 休閒資源暨綠色產業研究所 / 101 / This study built microbial fuel cell systems with the anode chamber containing glucose as ground substances, exploring the influences of external resistance on the growth rate, lipid content, and fatty acid composition of micro algae. The experiments were conducted in three parts. Part I: The anode chamber contained strict anaerobes, and the cathode chamber contained Nannochloropsis oculate. There were five testing procedures in total. Part II: The anode chamber contained Aurantiochytrium sp., and the cathode chamber contained buffer solution. There were four testing procedures in total. Part III: The anode chamber contained Aurantiochytrium sp., and the cathode chamber contained Nannochloropsis oculate. There were four testing procedures in total.
This study built the microbial fuel cell (MFC) systems for experiments and the results found that: (1) in Part I and Part III, the growth rates corresponding to the MFC systems with high external resistance (100,000Ω) were the highest, 0.0418 hr-1 and 0.1038 hr-1, respectively, meaning the influence of the value of external resistance on the growth rate of the Nannochloropsis oculate inside the cathode chamber was not significant. Compared with the control group with power cut off, the electronic supplied by the anode chamber of the MFC significantly increased the growth rate of the Nannochloropsis oculate. In Part II and Part III, the growth rate of the Aurantiochytrium sp. inside the anode chamber of the MFC system continued to drop due to the interference of RVC. However, the drop of growth rate of the Aurantiochytrium sp. was rather low in the environment with high external resistance; (2) under the condition of low external resistance (1Ω), the lipid content (1.620%) and the oil productivity (0.450 mgL-1d-1) of the Nannochloropsis oculate were significantly higher than those under the condition with high external resistance (0.279% and 0.077 mgL-1d-1) and those under the condition of photosynthetic reactor cultivation (0.349% and 0.097 mgL-1d-1); (3) For the MFC systems with different anode chamber environments for cultivation, the polyunsaturated fatty acid ratio of the Nannochloropsis oculate was higher (C18:2) with the anode chamber containing Aurantiochytrium sp.. As for cultivation under different external resistances, the polyunsaturated fatty acid ratio of the Nannochloropsis oculate was higher (C16:0) under high external resistance (100,000Ω). In Part III, the polyunsaturated fatty acid ratio under high external resistance was rather high with C18:2. And other polyunsaturated fatty acid ratios were also higher than Part I. And the power supply from the MFC lead to higher covalent bond and composition ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acid than the case of photosynthetic reactor cultivation
