obvious since there are more large sport games held in recent years. There are
plenty of natural and cultural resources to develop tourism with these superiorities
in Penghu, the largest offshore Island in Taiwan. The natural superior environment
of Penghu gives it tourism development strength..The Penghu government never
stops planning to hold activities like sport games to bring commercial opportunities.
Holding games not only improves the atmosphere of proper leisure activities, draws
a large number of competitors and tourists, but also promote the tourism
development of Penghu. The purpose of this study was to analyze the leisure
benefits of petanque sport games participants and the advantages of promoting
petanque games to local area and to popularize the actitivity to the public.
The research adopted the method of questionnaire survey. The subjects were
participants of 2011 Chrysanthemum Cup Petanque Game held in Penghu. 430
questionnaires were distributed, and 413 valid samples were collected. The
collected data were analyzed through Descriptive Statistics, Independent Samples T
Test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffe’s method, Paired Samples T-Test, Pearson’s
Product-moment Correlation Coefficients. The results were:
1. To rank the local development benefits of the participants of Petangue in the
offshore Island (Penghu), the score of the social benefit is the highest, the
cutural benefit is the second, and the third is the economic benefit. In the leisure
benefits part, the highest score goes to the social contact benefit, the second is
mental benefit, and the third is physiological benefit. Totally the leisure benefit is
larger than the local development benefit.
2. The differences of the local development benefits of the participants of Petangue
in the offshore Island (Penghu) are only obviously observed in age, occupation,
and identity they involved. The differences of the leisure benefits are obviously
observed in age, occupation, monthly income, experience of Petanque, the
number of sporting days per week, sports game spent, and identity they involved.
3. There is a significant positive correlation between the local development benefits
and the leisure benefits of the participants of Petangue in the offshore Island
(Penghu).
