The topic of the dissertation is about hot war in the Taiwan Strait between the Kuomintang of China (KMT) and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP; also known as the Communist Party of China, CPC). It endeavors to comprehend the historical significance by researching the military operation plans and actions. Since the lack of interpretations on many important details, the understanding of militaries might mislead the understanding of politics. The dissertation focuses on investigating significant details of the war, which will help for exact realization of modern Chinese history.
The first chapter, on the Battle of Kuningtou, analyzes the engagement in a different way. The goal is to describe the content and process of combat rightly. The result of this battle brought about the long-term separation in cross-strait.
The second chapter, on the recruitment of the Republic of China Armed Forces, studies on the reformation of ROC Armed Forces and the military aids from United States. Partially based on which, the ROC Armed Forces had successfully withstood the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) afterward.
The third chapter, on the First Taiwan Strait Crisis, inspects the conflicts at eastern islands of Zhejiang. The KMT’s defense of those islands had persisted for several years before and after the Korean War.
The fourth chapter, on the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis, aims at the truth of CCP military failure. The PLA was defeated because of wrong strategy and bad tactics.
The final chapter, on the Project National Glory, surveys the influence of the project deeply. President Chiang Kai-shek always wanted to recapture mainland China. Nevertheless, the project closure had ended hot war in the Taiwan Strait.
