碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 中國文學系碩博士班 / 101 / Hai Zi (1964-1989), one of the major Chinese poets in the 1980s, incredibly completed his exuberant poetry collection in only seven years. Short as his lifetime was, his literary legacy and his experimental work left us an abundance of imaginative presentation, language use and creative forms. This research is based on Hai Zi’s work created and published during the period between 1982 and 1989, as well as the historic background of poetic development in the 1980s, in an effort to explore the essence of his poetry.
The discussion of this research starts with the poet’s life and aims to define the status of his poetry in the 1980s, in reference to his social context and how he was influenced in the ambience of the “Misty Poetry” and later by “The Third Generation Poetry” in the 1980s. Chapter II defines the position of Hai Zi’s poetry against the context of that time. An analysis of his work is included mainly in Chapters III and IV. Chapter III explores, from the perspective of poetics, the “space” issue in Hai Zi’s work by delving into the spatial connotations between the lines. Chapter IV focuses on the more abstract idea: reverie, specifically, the working of the poetic imagination behind the reveries. Chapter V, the last part of the research, concludes by reviewing the points advanced in the chapters, as well as offering a deeper understanding of the aesthetic elements exhibited in the language and imagination of Hai Zi’s poetry, in order to find the unique features of his work.
Highlighting the diverse, rich poetic creative backgrounds in China in the 1980s, this research observes and discovers the language characteristics underlying the “space” and “reveries” in Hai Zi’s poetry that were presented in the historic context when the work was created. The aim is to explore how the language of his work was influenced by the historic elements, how he made breakthroughs in regard to language, as well as to examine how aesthetic elements were built through such space and reveries.
