Liuquwo (六曲窩) dialect is a kind of Hailu (海陸) Hakka spoken by local Hakka and Atayal residents in Kuan-hsi Township, Hsinchu County. This dialect is to some degree influenced by Sixian (四縣) Hakka, Atayal, Southern Min and Japanese.
This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter includes the motives and purposes of the thesis, literature review, research methods and steps of fieldwork. Chapter two introduces the initials, finals, tonal system of Liuquwo dialect and the literary-colloquial reading distinction and tone sandhi phenomena are also mentioned. Chapter three shows the correpondences and sound changes between Liuquwo Hakka and Middle Chinese classificatory system. The fourth chapter contains the phonological traits and the internal differences of the Liuquwo Hakka dialect. The fifth chapter deals with the vocabulary. We make horizontal comparisons between Liuquwo and other Hailu dialects. The sixth chapter is the conclusion. Liuquwo lexicon is listed as the appendix.
