Health Monitoring of the Casuarina along Coastal Area in Chiayi,Yunlin and Tainan / 嘉雲南濱海地區木麻黃健康檢測

碩士 / 國立嘉義大學 / 森林暨自然資源學系研究所 / 101 / Casuarina spp., plays an important role as a windbreak, preventing sand erosion, and protecting coastal areas. However, due to disturbances from various environmental factors, it is difficult to assess the health of a Casuarina spp. This study investigated 307 Casuarina spp. in 15 forests in Chiayi, Yunlin and Tainan. The trees’ height, basal diameter, diameter at breast height, clear bole height, crown diameter, live crown ratio, crown density, foliage transparency, crown dieback, leaf discoloration, trunk buds sprouts, grass surface pavement condition, fungal decay, vine damage, and sturdiness were assessed and a principle components analysis was performed. Four factors, including crown vigor, tree growth, future growth potential and surface interference, were found to make up 79.873 % of the total variance, which showed high explanatory power. Based on the total explained eigenvalue of factor rotation, these factors were used to assess the health level of the trees. The results showed that the current health level of the trees is between stable and damaged, and the growth of the trees ranged between healthy and very unhealthy. The tree health evaluation assessment, containing 13 variables derived from data obtained by Visual Tree Assessment, can be used to assess the vitality of the trees and possible future risks effectively. These health risks are the foundation of the tree’s vitality. By including the assessment of these risks, it will be possible to predict potential accidents (unexpected falling, likubin infection, etc). Moreover, the data may be used as a reference for the establishment of tree in the future and as a tool used to determine and implement preventative measures by relevant authorities
