The Effect of Forest Tending on Stand and Tree Growth of Taiwan Incense Cedar (Calocedrus macrolepis var. formosana) Plantation in the Dachiaohsi Experimental Forest / 森林撫育對大礁溪肖楠人工林林分與單木生長之效應

碩士 / 國立宜蘭大學 / 森林暨自然資源學系碩士班 / 101 / Thinning, pruning and fertilizing are the common methods used in forest tending processing. In order to know the tree growth of( Calocedrus macrolepis var. formosana ) plantation response to thinning, pruning and fertilization, this study has established 20 plots using response surface design on a 22-year-old (Calocedrus macrolepis var. formosana ) plantation in the Dachiaohsi Experimental Forest in 2002, and surveys continuously for ten years after forest tending treatment. The dependent variable is individual tree basal area growth(BAG), and the independent variables are the intensities of thinning (T), pruning (P), fertilizing(F) and their interactions (TP, TF, PF) and their squared terms (T2, P2, F2), and the covariates are individual tree basal area (BA), stand basal area (SBA) and site index (SI). SAS RSREG and REG procedures are used to analyze the growth differences caused by the different treatment intensity. The results show that thinning and fertilizing can increase the basal area growth, and the effect of thinning slightly better than fertilizing, but the interaction effect of thinning and fertilizing is negative. Therefore, we suggest that heavy thinning and heavy fertilizing should not be applied simultaneously. In this study the best treatment for individual basal area growth is the combination of light thinning(6%) and heavy fertilizing(318.92 kg N/ha).
