Distribution of butyltins in sediments of river basin and estuary of Love River, Kaohsiung. Taiwan. / 高雄愛河及河口域沉積物丁基錫分佈研究

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 海洋環境工程研究所 / 101 / The aim of this research is to investigate the amount、composition and distribution of butyltins (BTs) in the sediments of basin and estuary of Love River in Kaohsiung. In addition, the polluted levels of butyltins sources as well as the potential impacts on biological is evaluated.
In this study, the samples were taken at 10 stations along Love River (L1~L10) and 5 stations around Love River estuary (R1~R5) in October 2011, July 2012. After the samples were dried by freezing machine within 3days, dried samples were homogenized via sieve 500μm. The use of gas chromatography/flame photometric detector (FPD) for analyzing monobutyltin (MBT), dibutyltin (DBT) and tributyltin (TBT). In addition, the other parameters such as organic matter, particle size distribution, total grease, total nitrogen and total phosphorus, are also accomplished to consider the interrealation of existence of BTs in sediment and the characteristic of sediment .
In October, 2011 and July, 2012 two surveys showed that amount of butyltins in the sediments of basin and estuary in Love River ranging from 7.06~21.69 and 3.48~16.67 ng Sn/g dw. Overall, concetration of butyltins in July, 2012 is less then October, 2011, because rainfall occuring in June, 2012 diluted the pollutants. With the composition of sediment in Love River and estuary, the main species are MBT and DBT with the percent of 17.1~71% and 28.1~67.1%, respectively. The major pollutant source in upstream may originate from waste water, domestic sewage or human activities. While the existence of MBT and DBT in downstream, may be caused by the fluctation of tides at Love River estuary or the movement of pollutant from upstream. The concentration of TBT in this research is mostly minor and only be detectable in downstream and estuaries measured with trace values.
With different particle size (<38μm, 38~75μm, 75~125μm, 125~250μm and>250μm) analysis showed that the smaller particle size contains a lower concentration of butyltins. The main reason might be characteristics of sediment particles or related to butyltins physical and chemical properties.
By comparing to TBT-contaminated sediment class, the concentration of TBT in Love River and estuaries are ranked as uncontamination (<1.2 ng Sn/g dw) to lightly contamination (1.2~8.2 ng Sn/g dw). According to United States Environmental Protection Agency TBT toxicity guidelines and Oslo and Paris commission assessment class criterion for imposex assess TBT in the sediments of basin and estuary of Love River on creature effects, the result shows that TBT has a lower impact on creature and reproduction of female species living in river.
