Feasibility Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination by Using Estuarine Crabs as Biological Indicators / 利用河口域蟹類作為重金屬污染指標生物之可行性評估

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 水產養殖研究所 / 101 / For understanding accumulation capability of heavy metals and how to reflect the status of pollution, estuarine crabs were collected to assess whether those are possible to be pollution indicator organisms. The crabs were colleted to analyze and compare with the content of heavy metals in the environmental soil and water, and population density beside Erren River beach in wet and dry season since July 2012 to January 2013. The results revealed that the average concentration of total As (0.06±0.08 mg/L), Cr (0.14±0.12 mg/L), Cu (0.14±0.10 mg/L), and Pb (0.27±0.36 mg/L) in the water were beyond the limit value of river water established by Environmental Protection Administration (EPA). In spite of the average concentration of heavy metals in soil not beyond the control standards of EPA, the concentration of total As at sampling site 1, 3 and 4 were over the regulations monitoring standards (30 mg / kg dry wt). The enrichment factor from soil confirmed that local environment has been disturbed seriously by human activities. Inspect the concentrations of heavy metals of whole crab body from seven species, the total Pb and Cd were above the control standards (0.5 mg / kg wet wt). By analyzing the bioconcentration factor, it also showed that the domestic crabs were with highly ability to accumulate toxic heavy metals like as As, Cd and Pb. Base on population density in Erren River beach, Uca arcuata is the dominant species, but no specimen was found in January 2013. The result suggested that Uca arcuata presented more sensitive to environmental contamination and change thus affecting the stability of population density. The sesarmid crab, Perisesarma biden, appeared relative stable on population density but with highly tolerate to concentration of heavy metals. Therefore, while investigating the impact of environmental heavy metals pollution on estuarine organisms, Perisesarma biden is able to reflect the environmental accumulation concentration of heavy metals, but the Uca arcuata may as a better estuarine biological indicator of Erren River.
