Accordingly, following the cargocontainerization, the using of container terminals are increasing. These container operators and investors are called container terminal operators(CTOs). The CTOs are categorized into two majors includingprivately operated container terminalsby ownership and the other that have significant discrepancy. This study aims to analysis the CTOs current condition, the interaction between the CTOs and container shipping carriers, understanding thekeyinfluential factor, and finds out the discrepancy between both of them in Taiwan. A descriptive statistic method and analytic hierarchy process were employed to analysis the influential factors that affect the operational performance in container terminal industry.
An analytic hierarchy process was used to identify five aspects and twenty evaluating items. The most agreement items of performance of container terminal operator by ownershipisoverall revenues, following by total cost, operational performance, customer services, and personnel system. On the other hand, the five most agreement items of performance of the otherprivate terminal operator isoverall revenues, customer services, total cost, operational performance, and personnel system. Results indicated that the purpose of container terminal operator by ownership is in order to enhance their supply chain performance. In the contrast, The other private terminal operator have no problem in resources and cooperation, but they are focused on customer relationships to improve their operational performance. This study provides the conclusions of research for expanding strategies and implications in the container terminal industry are discussed.
