A Study of Tidal and Wave Effects upon Simple Harbors Utilizing ROMS and SWAN / 應用ROMS與SWAN模擬簡易港口之潮汐與波浪研究

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 造船及海洋工程研究所 / 101 / This study aids for the effects of tidal and wave interactions upon simple harbors utilizing ROMS and SWAN. The harbor geometry is characterized by a rectangular shape or a triangle one, in both cases involve the depth bathymetry either varies inside the harbor or extends the bottom slope to outside the harbor. The harbor is located in the eastern middle boundary, inlet of the tidal force and waves are specified in the western boundary, and the southern as well as the northern sides are the open boundaries. Specifically, a M2 semi-diurnal tide is excited on the western side where Chapman condition is utilized for free-surface boundary, Flather condition for 2D momentum boundary, and radiation condition for the 3D momentum boundary. The input of wave spectrum has 1 meter significant wave height with 10-seconds characteristic period on the western boundary while the southern and northern sides accommodate the non-reflecting boundary conditions.
In this study we firstly test ROMS simulations and obtain the results confirmed with M2 tidal forcing. Then, after coupling with SWAN in use of MCT, a series of tests indicate the feasibility in adopting the coupling of ROMS and SWAN modules. These tests include coupled model with only ROMS ocean module and coupled model with only SWAN wave module for animating diffraction phenomena of open breakwater or semi-infinite breakwater. Finally, the simulations of tidal forcing and wave interactions upon the rectangular or triangular harbors are applied to investigate the behavior of tidal wave height, velocity vector field, and wave-breaking location.
