碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 漁業生產與管理研究所 / 101 / This study aimed to investigate the reproductive biology of the toothed pony fish, Gazza minuta, in the coastal waters off southwestern Taiwan. A total of 747 specimens (386 females and 361 males) were collected monthly between October 2011 and September 2012 at Jhong-Yun fishing port, southwestern Taiwan. Based on the histological examination, the oocyte development can be categorized into eight stages and the ovary development into three stages. The spawning season of G. minuta can be found from January to October, and have peaks in March to May. It is well correlated with seasonal changes in gonadosomatic index (GSI), macroscopic and histological appearance. Mean batch fecundity of toothed pony fish was estimated to be 1,707±848. Batch fecundity(BF) of species also increased with body weight(BW), and can be described as following: BF=87.97BW-841.14(n=30; r2=0.48; p<0.05). Sex ratio (females/total) for all specimens combined data did not significantly different from 50% according to a Chi-squared test (p>0.05) , but skewed to the female for individual larger than 100 mm FL. Sizes at 50% maturity (L50) were estimated to be 102.3 mm FL for female and 86.99 mm FL for male.
