The Poster Design of Animal Welfare / 動物福利議題之海報創作

碩士 / 國立高雄師範大學 / 視覺傳達設計研究所 / 101 / Humans are the smartest species in the world, and it is taken for granted that they should show their affection for other species. But greed has hoodwinked our eyes; we always choose to ignore the balance line between ecological conservation and benefits. People’s deforestation and excessive hunting result in species’ difficulty in their inhabitation and propagation, and even cause them to become extinct. Animal furs and circuses just bring us vanity and a short period of happiness at the expense of animals’ lives. In recent years, these issues have been highly valued gradually. Many animal welfare groups have issued a call for and emphasized the importance of animal welfare.

This present research employed semiotics theory to explore the application of poster design. First of all, by collection, collation and review of relevant literature, we could understand the semiotics theory of Saussure and Roland Barthes. In addition, through the analysis of related animal welfare works and productions, the researcher collated frequently-used symbols and common types of symbol combination. Moreover, based on the issues that animal welfare groups have been concerned about in recent years, the researcher integrated them and addressed “animal conservation” and “animal cruelty” as the creative themes in this study. The awareness of animal conservation was expressed and presented via poster design in order to convey the essence of the message to and provide visual thinking for an image viewer, whereby we could raise a cry for and voice the welfare of animals.
