On the Ocean Writing of Hong-Ji Liao(1995~2012) / 廖鴻基海洋文學研究(1995~2012)

碩士 / 國立高雄師範大學 / 回流中文碩士班 / 101 / Due to the lack of ocean writing in the lessons of Taiwanese Chinese textbooks, my theme of study, ocean writing, is inspired by my first novel and touching encounter with the selected articles of Hong-Ji Liao’ ocean writing.
This dissertation aims to study Hong-Ji Liao’s ocean writing during 1995 to 2012 via the research method of studying his works and making textual interpretation, semi-structured interviews, and data collecting and sorting. It includes five chapters. Chapter One, Introduction, describes research motivation, research questions, research methods, and literature reviews. Chapter Two presents Hong-Ji Liao’s life and career through the way of single linear, intending to retrace Liao’s writing process through studying the text of his ocean writing. Chapter Three describes how Liao expresses the social care, rebuilds self-awareness, and reflects the dignity, wiser, the value of learning in the society in his ocean writings. Chapter Four analyzes Liao’s writing strategies, his sources of writing materials, how he utilizes intensive narrative method to demonstrate the storytelling and then induces the elements of fable in his works, such as the presentation of the original conversation, poeticization, and moral lessons, at the meantime, helping examine Liao’s literary position and status in ocean writing.
