博士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋生物研究所 / 101 / The systematic status of the tripterygiid fishes recorded from coastal waters of Taiwan is reviewed. There are twenty night species belonging to five genera are described. Comparison and a diagnostic key are provided for tripterygiid species now known from Taiwan, including 3 new species: Enneapterygius shaoi Chiang &; Chen, 2008, Enneapterygius sheni Chiang &; Chen, 2008, Helcogramma williamsi Chiang &; Chen, 2012; 1 undiscribed species: Norfolkia sp., and 2 new records: H. rhinoceros Hansen, 1986 and Norfolkia thomasi Witley, 1964. The combination of morphological and molecular analyses confirm that some synonymies occur and that the validity of specific names should be reconsidered. Enneapterygius rubicauda Shen &; Wu, 1994 is a junior synonym of E. flavoccipitis Shen &; Wu, 1994. Three species: E. erythrosoma Shen &; Wu, 1994 E. hsiojenae Shen &; Wu, and E. leucopunctatus Shen &; Wu, 1994 are considered to be valid species.
Phylogenetic trees of tripterygiids from Taiwan are also constructed using the Bayesian analyses of aligned mtDNA ND5 gene, COI gene and 12S rRNA gene. All trees based on molecular data show the Norfolkia and Helcogramma lineages are monophyletic groups separately: the genus Norfolkia is the oldest and Helcogramma is the latest group. Diagnostic characters defined Springerichthys and Ceratobregma are plesiomorphies, that corresponding the cladogenesis of our molecular phylogeny. The largest genus Enneapterygius is not monophyly, in which E. tutuilae is first diverged before Enneapterygius–Helcogramma lineages, and E. philippinus is diverged after E. tutuilae or forming a sister group to Helcogramma lineage. Osteological analysis also shows Norfolkia is the first diverged lineage, and then Ceratobregma and Springerichthys. Helcogramma is ingrouped with the other three Enneapterygius species.
