碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 輪機工程系 / 101 / This thesis aims to explore the effectiveness of the vessel interceptor. Though the prototype vessel (without the interceptor) has achieved a test speed slightly higher than 30 knots and met the owners requirements, given the actual need of the patrol boat and the desire of the shipyard, supervising department and the owner to attain cost efficiency, a vessel with an interceptor is needed in order to further increase vessel speed. In doing so, the owner's requirements for improvement are fulfilled without compromising the profitability of the shipyard.
The study is completed on three 100-ton patrol boats, which are equipped with interceptors with heights of 2.5 cm, 4 cm and 4.4 cm. The maximum continuous rating of the engine at 85% during sea trial demonstrated the effectiveness of the interceptor. In the case where the vessel is equipped with the 4 cm interceptor, the vessel speed increased by approximately 10%. In addition, the interceptor increases pressure at the transom stern, adjusts the trim and stability of the vessel, reduces the vessel resistance during sailing and ultimately achieves optimal sailing conditions and improved performance.
