A study on Safety Enhancement of release hook system for Marine enclosed Lifeboat / 商船用封閉式救生艇釋放吊鉤安全性改進之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 商船學系所 / 101 / The main purpose of equipping lifeboats on all vessels engaged in marine transportation is to save lives in the event of an emergency, but accidents with casualties oftentimes occur during routine lifeboat drills. Especially, unexpected loosing of the on-load release hooks from lifeboats during the launching procedure has the highest ratio in all accident categories.
To solve the unwarned sea-falling accidents of lifeboats due to the unexpected loosing of the on-load release hooks from the full load of enclosed lifeboats during the launching procedure, this paper aims to seek out a manner that increase safety of the on-load release system and research innovative devices, such as position sensors and shift monitors, that possibly use to detect any false position or damage in the release mechanism.
In this study, the position sensors were installed on davits and used to detect whether hooks are correctly positioned. If the hooks or other parts in the release mechanism were falsely positioned, the automatic shift monitors located inside of the lifeboat consoles would be able to detect and inform potential hook loosing in advance and immediately stop the launching or recovering procedure. Moreover, further overhauls would take place to avoid breakdowns of lifeboat release hooks in the future.
The results of this study will provide more specific basis of lifeboat release system safety and accident prevention for ship operators, the lifeboat manufacturers, the crews at all level, and training institutions and academia concerned. Furthermore, they can help improve research, protecting the life and property.
