碩士 / 東吳大學 / 音樂學系 / 101 / Villa-Lobos is the most influential Brazilian composer in the 20th century. He gradually composed eight works of Bachianas Brasileiras series. These unique masterpieces are the fusion of Brazilian folk music and the composing techniques of J.S. Bach, which are formulated by Villa-Lobos. It quickly caught people’s attention as it released. Bachianas Brasileiras consists with nine works; the No. 1 and the No. 5 are specifically constituted for cello orchestra; in addition, the fifth has a soprano in it. This paper contains in-depth research on Villa-Lobos’ life, composing techniques, and his style. By studying every stage of Villa-Lobos’ life and his works as a foundation, and then thoroughly discuss these two Bachianas Brasileiras, No. 1 and No. 5’s, background, and then providing rational interpretation via analyzing and performing these two works.
