碩士 / 東海大學 / 高階經營管理碩士在職專班 / 101 / This research studies two listed life insurance companies and investigates the impact of financial crisis on the business performance of life insurance industry. First we interview academic scholars and senior managers of life insurance companies and have their opinion on the impact of financial crisis on the business performance of life insurance industry. Second we use descriptive statistic analysis and analyze the financial structure, solvency, business performance and profit capability of those two companies during the year 2005 to 2012 and study the changes made by financial crisis. Because of the law of information disclosure issued by financial supervisory commission at July 5, 2011, we can have the financial business data of those two companies.
The research result shows that financial crisis has caused the redistribution of market share among domestic life insurance companies, reduction of manpower in the field and rising of the bank channel selling the insurance goods. It is recommended that insurance companies should pay attention in greater depth on domestic market, have complete product line and diverse selling channel and platform. This can greatly reduce the impact of financial crisis on business performance especially in today's difficult economic situation where GDP is not growing, interest keeps lowering and exchange rate changes drastically. Life insurance companies must work harder in order to maintain or even improve their performance. By using descriptive statistical analysis and analyzing the financial statements of those two companies, it proves that with good management and strictly adhere to the regulations that are enforced by government after financial crisis their business performance is not influenced during and after financial crisis. It matches with the interview conclusion with senior managers from the industry.
