Searching for the Harbor City the Aesthetic : The Representation of Kaohsiung in Cinema / 尋找港都美學:電影中的高雄再現

碩士 / 國立臺南藝術大學 / 動畫藝術與影像美學研究所 / 101 / The artists have been constructing the cities in films since the Taiwan New Cinema first appeared in 1982. The realistic film style not only hastened the growth of the images of Taiwanese cities, but also made the film an important medium that keeps track of the cities’ developments.

Before year 2000, the resource of Taiwanese film industry was centralized in Taipei. Kaohsiung was nearly disappeared in cinema until the city government began to sponsor film projects which were going to shoot in Kaohsiung as a way to market the city. The sponsorship has expedited many “Kaohsiung Movies”, and the imagery of the city shows obvious differences from the old Kaohsiung films.

Therefore, the research focuses on the film which were shot in Kaohsiung. Due to analyze the film narrations, and styles historically, we will find out how Kaohsiung was presented in different way and different time. Is there an unique Kaohsiung film style that can be called “the aesthetic of Kaohsiung city” that can be related to the distinctive development and culture of Kaohsiung ?
