The Study of Yan Haideng’s Work: “Jin Diao” / 閻海登《晉調》之研究

碩士 / 國立臺南藝術大學 / 民族音樂學研究所 / 101 / “Jin Diao”, published in 1960 by Yen Hai-Deng, stands as a significant example of modern Sheng music. Nowadays, it is one of the works receiving performances the most often because it is in great diversity of content. Most importantly, this work has advanced the performance techniques and expanded the possibility of the expression of Shang music. Through this work, the composer gave not only the brand new texture of Sheng music but also built novel esthetic.
Before “Jin Diao” was premiered, Sheng could be functioned as playing harmony and polyphony in the melody. Yen Hai-Deng further incorporated polyphony into Sheng music. “Jin Diao” is refreshing in this day by first exploiting the skill of “Li Ying” and being performed with both hands, which broadened the technical sophistication to a great level and moved Shang music into a new era.
The study is to explore how Yen Hai-Deng developed the performance skills as well as musical architecture and how he contributed to the innovation of Sheng music. His creativity brings about a magnificent influence, not only breaking Sheng’s typical image, but also proving that Sheng instrument could be a main character on stage. Yen Hai-Deng established the unique charm of Sheng music.
