THE STUDY OF BIOLOGICAL ACUTE TOXICITY IN THE EFFLUENT WATER / 放流水生物急毒性試驗研究

碩士 / 大同大學 / 生物工程學系(所) / 101 / The industrial development brings the profitable economy for Taiwan, but also has affected the living life of our society. The increasing concern of environmental protection promotes our attention to the quality of effluents from factories of industrial area. Effluents from different manufacturer’s process or domestic waste water must be treated to meet the effluent standard before discharging into our environment. At present the announced regulations from the environmental protection bureau are mainly based on the BOD, COD and SS standards, etc. Although those standards help to manage the effective control to the pollution streams from the factories of industrial district, but it is unable to reflect fully the biological hazardous components and effects of those effluents on the toxicity to the aquatic organisms. The domestic environmental protection bureau issued an improving legislation of the effluents guidelines on 15 December, 2010. The new guidelines integrate the acute toxicity test to the hydrostatic organisms. Because the biological acute toxicity test is a new examinational project in our country, it is worth to study this new topic. In this research we study the acute toxicity of different effluents on the two major types of aquatic organisms, i.e. Cyprinus carpio and Daphnia magna, in the hydrostatic test with sodium chloride as the reference toxicant. Different effluents include samples from the electro-optical industry and waste water of industrial district. The results of this study will help to understand the acute toxicity of effluent from our ordinary industrial factories.
