Although the studies of Dunhuang arts on the cave forms, murals and colorful sculptures have been widely discussed, the analyses and classifications for caisson decorative patterns in the superior area of ancient Dunhuang Grottoes have not received much attention. Only few studies deconstructed the caisson decorative patterns and applied the unit of caisson decorative patterns on textile designs. Therefore, this study investigated the Dunhuang Caission patterns and analyzed the caisson pattern units. Subsequently, the patterns of caisson units during different ages were reproduced by the Adobe® Illustrator CS5 software, and the new patterns were combined to create various styles which corresponded to ancient styles such as Northern Dynasty, Sui Dynasty, Tang Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty. Moreover, the silk scarves with the new caisson pattern were manufactured by a means of digital printing. The styles of Dunhuang caisson herein were described as follows：
Northern Dynasty Pattern and style：Representative patterns include wheel-shaped lotus and Honeysuckle patterns, and the caisson style is solemn and simple.
Tang Dynasty：Representative patterns include three rabbit pattern, Honeysuckle pattern and grain pattern, and the caisson style presents exotic attractiveness.
Tang Dynasty Pattern and style：Representative patterns include lotus, camellia and curly grass pattern, and the caisson style shows colorful lotus forms.
Wu-Yuan Dynasty Pattern and style：Representative patterns include dragons, peony flowers pattern and geometric patterns, and the caisson style presents an ethnic integration.
