碩士 / 國立高雄應用科技大學 / 資訊管理研究所碩士班 / 102 / There are many different types of User Interface (UI) on the application of virtual reality. Some of these UI might cause confusion or perplexity to the users and hence claimed not user-friendly. In order to reduce users' confusion when using the virtual reality, making them to have higher satisfaction towards the virtual reality, a good UI is needed. Many research or studies on the virtual reality done previously focused only on the application or others but not the UI. The aim of this research is to investigate how satisfactory are the users when using the virtual reality via different types of UI.
This study was conducted using a virtual art museum created using 3dsMaX and Unity3D. A total of four virtual reality was created; with one virtual reality connecting the other three, each with a different type of UI. This study has recruited 30 subjects. Before operating the system, there was a short briefing of the purpose and the procedures of the research, the important things to take note as well as some brief introduction of the system. They then started to operate the system and a Questionnaire for User Interaction Satisfaction (QUIS) was given to them after they have finished experiencing all the virtual realities.
The QUIS was then collected and the data was analyzed for the data's reliability using Cronbach's Alpha. The analysis showed a value of 0.912, indicating the data collected was reliable. The data was then analyzed using paired-sample t-test to check for any significant difference between the satisfaction level of the subjects using each UI. From the analysis, there is no statistically significant difference between the satisfaction level using UI with only words and UI with only diagram. However, the results showed that there is a statistically significant difference between the satisfaction level of the subjects using UI with either words or diagram only and using UI with both words and icons (p<.001). From the average score in the QUIS, the subjects were most satisfied using UI with both words and icons (score=4.5/5). From this analysis, it can be deduced that the UI with both words and icons is the most user-friendly as compared to the other 2.
When designing the UI, the sequence of important function icons is as follow: "Introduction", "Instructions", "Current Location", "Home", and "Directory". However, the sequence of function icons used based on users' frequency of use is different ("Introduction","Home", "Current Location", "Instructions", and "Directory"). This information can be used when designing a UI to make the UI more user-friendly.
