An Analysis on Taiwan Freight Demands and Strategies: a Case Study of Sea, Air, and Road Transportations / 臺灣貨物運輸需求與策略分析─以海路、航空、公路貨運為例

碩士 / 國立政治大學 / 行政管理碩士學程 / 102 / The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship among Ocean Water Transportation, Air Transportation, and Truck Freight Transportation. The econometric system equation consisted of one translog cost function and two expenditure share equations is set up. The estimates of the coefficients of the regressors are used to find own-price elasticities, cross-price elasticities, and partial elasticities of substitution respectively. Some economic implications based on these figures are investigated and discussed in details.
Judging by the results of the empirical analysis, the relationship between Ocean Water Transportation and Air Transportation is substitutable, and so is the one between Air Transportation and Truck Freight Transportation. In addition, the own-price elasticities of demand of the three transportations are all inelastic which indicates that shippers are not sensitive to freight rate. This paper concludes with some modest suggestions might be useful for the authorities to make transportation policies or as a management guideline for entrepreneurs. Furthermore, it could also be a good source for further researches in the future.
