The Effects of Motivation-Hygiene Factors and Work Values on Work Morale – The Case of the Brigades of Coast Guard Administration / 激勵保健因子與工作價值觀對工作士氣之影響-以海巡署機動查緝隊為例

碩士 / 國立中興大學 / 國家政策與公共事務研究所 / 102 / Work value is the foundation of understanding employees’ attitudes and behaviors and motivator. Effectively using incentive programs helps to improve work efficiency, work performance, and work morale. This study used motivation-hygiene factor, work value, and work morale as the research variables, in hopes of proposing specific suggestions based on the research findings to related units as references for making related policies.
This study adopted the questionnaire survey method, with the research subjects being the members of the Brigade of Coast Guard Administration. A total of 313 questionnaires were distributed. The returned questionnaires with too many missing or invalid values were excluded. The total number of valid questionnaires was 230. SPSS 19.0 was used to perform the statistical analyses, and the research results are summarized below:
1. The Brigade members’ perception of work independence and challenges ranked the highest among the motivation factors.
2. 60% of the Brigade members believed that the promotion system was not fair.
3. In the aspect of work values, Brigade members’ perception of internal value had the highest score.
4. The condition of the Brigade members’ work morale was neutral or above.
5. Overall motivation factor, overall hygiene factor, and overall work value had a positive and significant relationship with overall work morale.
6. The correlation between promotion value and overall work morale was significant and negative.
7. Among the influences on overall work morale, the influence of overall motivation factor was the strongest, followed by the overall work value, while that of overall hygiene factor was not significant.
Based on the above research findings, this study proposes policy recommendations for the Coast Guard Administration and organizations alike and suggestions for future researchers.
