博士 / 國立成功大學 / 水利及海洋工程學系 / 102 / Traditional “hard” engineering methods have been used to coastal protection for avoiding coastal erosion for a long time. However, these kinds of “hard” methods usually need higher cost and longer construction time. The present study is to investigate the production and installation of flexible-net structure that is used to dissipate wave energy and prevent beach erosion, basing on the concept of “soft” engineering method. Field experiments were conducted in the Shuang-Chun beach in Tainan to investigate the stability of the structure of flexible net, and the effect of the flexible-net method on wave energy dissipation and sediment deposition so as to avoiding beach erosion. The field experiments have been conducted for three years since the August of 2008. This study set up a 50 m-long flexible-net structure in each year. Totally, three flexible-net structures were set up in the Shuang-Chun beach. The structures of flexible-net devices have been experienced the challenges of severe typhoons. The results also show that the flexible devices have effectively dissipated wave energy and promoted sediment deposition on the beach.. Laboratory experiments were also conducted in glass-tank at the Department of Hydaulic and Ocean Engineering. Laboratory experiments were conducted using to measure the wave heights in front of and behind the flexible-net device. The wave damping rate and the energy damping rate were analyzed, so as to explain the function of the flexible-net device in sediment deposition.
