The Writing Research Yangzhou Landscape of Kong Shang-Ren / 孔尚任揚州地景書寫──以《湖海集》為核心的考察

碩士 / 國立暨南國際大學 / 中國語文學系 / 102 / The famous playwright Kong Shangren (1648-1718), who styled himself as “Pingzhi” and “Jichong”, along with an agnomen of “Dongtang” or “Antang” and yet calling himself “Yuntingshanren”, was well-known for his work, the Peach Blossom Fan, which was as well the mainstream research subject of Kong in academic fields in the past. That is to say, unlike drama, poetry writing of Kong has always been less discussed. Considering the fact, the poetry collection Hu Hai Ji is adopted in the thesis with attempts to focus on spatial cultural writing of the landscape of Yangzhou.
The main material is Collections of Kong Shangren: Hu Hai Ji, a poetry collection of Kong while working as the governor of water resources in Huaizhou and Yangzhou during three years (the 25th to 28th) of reign of Kangxi. Moreover, contents of the collection were mostly landscape descriptions in Huaizhou and Yangzhou, gatherings for poetry, as well as cultural interactions with local poets and elderly. In other words, cultural capital concepts and research methods in Building Culture in Early Qing Yangzhou written by Tobie Sarah Meyer-Fong are adopted in the prose with attempts to reveal the trial of landscape studies of Yangzhou for Kong Shangren.
Themes discussed in the thesis include observations on literati and adherents, plus cultural memories of landscapes in Kong’s geographical and spatial writing methods, combining sight descriptions, interactions with the waters, as well as inheritance and creations for the landscapes in Huaizhou and Yangzhou. Furthermore, overall speaking, coordination of listing issues in orders begins with flood controls, particularly lower parts of the river during in early Qing Dynasty, followed by Kong starting to work as the governor, who was to face debates from both sides in the palace during the 25th to the 28th year of Kangxi’s reign. Additionally, Kong’s responsibilities to governing water resources, concerned aspects and his viewpoints during the three years were as well included into naming and describing manners Hu Hai Ji.
On the other hand, this poetry may also be considered an interactive network intertwined with many critics in Yangzhou; as Kong hosted and participated in landscape poet gatherings, cultural capitals accumulated from these activities resulted in cultural meanings of naming and selecting the poetry. Last but not least, as Kong worked in Jiangzhou and Huaizhou, his landscape descriptions and comments from literati also built inheritance and creations to Yangzhou together base on the scenery and cultural memories.
