碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 水產食品科學研究所 / 102 / There are two types of sulfated polysaccharides named fucan and fucoidan in brown algae including Sargassum glaucescens J.Agardh. They have similar structural formula and possess certain functionalities such as antioxidant activity, anti-coagulant, anti-cancer, anti-virus, inhibition of complement activation, inhibition of sperm-oocyte fusion, and adsorption of heavy metals. The algae polysaccharides are commonly extracted by alcohol, organic acid, and high pressure and high temperature water. However these methods are complicated, organic solvent-consuming, low efficient, energy-consuming and batch-type. Therefore we developed high temperature and high pressure processes using single screw extruder and puffing machine to decomposethe structure of brown algae and easily extracted algae polysaccharides from brown algae by hot water. The purpose of this project is to develop a continuous, solvent saving, high efficient and cost saving process for extracting algae polysaccharides and investigate their antioxidant and anti-cancer functions. Our study may be helpful for the nourishment in aquatic processing industry, functional raw materials, and biotechnology industries.
