碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 海事資訊科技研究所 / 102 / The main purpose of the study is to collect the information sent by Automatic Identification System (AIS) of ships in and out of Kaohsiung Port. The above information is decoded and sorted to establish an AIS database, which is further used to analyze shipping activity in Kaohsiung Port.
AIS information is sent via very high frequency (VHF) band. This study employs Microsoft Visual Studio C# program to receive and decode AIS information. This information is then compiled into the database. The AIS data collected from November, 2013 to March, 2014 are analyzed.
Analysis results show that, 4662 vessels were in and out of Kaohsiung Port during the 5-month analysis period, including 3521 containers and 1141 tankers. More containers were found than tankers. The daily-mean number of containers (tankers) to enter or leave Kaohsiung Port is 24.3 (7.9). The average length of stay is 4.4 (5.7) days. The maximum probability of stay length is 2 (2) days. For the 50% number of containers (tankers), the range of stay length is 1-2.4 (1-2.2) days. For the 75% numbers of vessels, the stay length ranges in 1-4.6 (1-6.4) days for containers (tankers). The longer stay length of tankers than containers indicates that the former needs more operation time in uploading/ downloading goods.
