Entrepreneurship, Industrial Cluster and Taiwan’s Yacht Manufacturing Industry / 創業家精神、產業群聚與臺灣遊艇製造業

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 航運管理研究所 / 102 / Industry cluster substantially contributes to the competitiveness of the industries in Taiwan among the international markets. The topics in this thesis focus on the influence of “entrepreneurship” and “yacht builders’ cluster” upon the yacht building industry in Taiwan, the interview with the enterprises and collection the inside information from the enterprises’ view-point and the development of Taiwan yacht building industry. Considering that the yacht building industry is composed of the yacht assembler and the manufacturer for components and accessories, four yacht builders/manufacturer are chosen for case study for interviews and analyses, including Horizon Yachts, Ocean Alexander and Kha Shing Enterprise, which are all the top 20 yacht builders in the world and Aritex Enterprise, the supplier for yacht metal hardware, components and assembles which holds more than 70% market share in Taiwan. In this study, NVivo 10 builds 17 nodes to interview for data coding, by way of building relationships and models of node relationships and relationship types.The conclusions of this thesis are,
1. Connection among the entrepreneurs of Taiwan’s yacht builders formed the industry cluster and gathering at the early stage; while as the needs of business development, inlaid structural complementarity of production factors further strengthen the industry cluster.
2. Friendship and good faith among the enterprises would reduce the transaction cost, and lead to the knowledge spillover due to industry clusters composed by the various manufacturers working for the yachts builders.
3. The industrial cluster contributes the integration of resources and mutual cooperation yacht factory environment which have a significant impact on improving competitiveness.
Taiwan's yacht industry development plan shall take the yacht manufacturing as the basis, with the development of the MICE industry, which will promote Taiwan being the yacht sales and exhibition center in Asia, and with the gradual relaxation of regulatory prohibition in connection to the yacht and leisure industry.
It is suggested, from a policy perspective, that the in order to inspire the transaction of yachts, develop yacht building and leisure industry and create more job vacancies, the way is not only carrying out the Southern Stars Zone at the first priority, but also providing more incentives such as not imposing luxury tax on yacht sale and purchase transaction.
